Hey, guys I just want to say that I understand that some people aren’t going to like Rascals or any other art that I do and that’s fine. everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I never said that My art or this webcomic was the best thing since sliced bread I know it has flaws, I know that some people think its a pile of shit. If that’s the way they think it is, well then I’m gonna always stand by my pile of shit because I love doing what I do. and not a God damn thing is gonna stop me from doing it. all I wanted to do is give some characters a chance to grow those being Reiko Skye and Issy.  Granted the story has gone off the rails from a college slice of life story, but I wanted a chance to see these Characters in a very bizarre situation, that is one of my goal in this Arc. So to all those who are enjoying this story  Thank you for all the support and I hope to become an even better artist down the road.

Well as I always say to peeps who talk shit about other peoples work
“Lets see you do better”
Rascals has grown on me quite abit and has become one of my favorite webcomics for a long while now, Im glad I have the opportunity to read it, And this Arc has been off the walls balls crazy but all in a good way, While it was giving the slice of life feels from the start it IS your own comic and it IS your own world so you can shape the world any way you want, Even if it includes Super Saiyan God Bunny babes (Only makes it 10x more awesome!). So don’t be so hard on yourself Godai, I love your works, I love Rascals and I hope to continue to read it for a long time (Hell if you make a offically printed comic version of this I will sure as heck buy it!)

On a Side note for the page itself: O___O;……Geebus, Izzy this maybe a time to not listen to Reiko and actually help her out.

Unless you want people to ask how your intelligence is, I suggest you never say “Let’s see you do better”. That is a bad excuse, which is up there with the ever present “Don’t like, don’t read”. One doesn’t need to “do better” to call out something for having problems or being bad.

Problem with this thinking is there is so much you and anyone else can complain and keep coming back before it loses all powers.

If you marched into Burger King, demand you get a big mac, eventually excepting the Whooper but still complaining about not getting a big mac, coming back to the counter and yell you are not getting what you want even though you took the Whooper it’s all your fault.

You CAN go else where for what you want, but you keep coming back, you keep demanding that big mac and taking that whooper, and it’s your own damn fault.

The thing is, there are people who just see “furry” and immediately trash it. The quality doesn’t matter. In short, they’re letting their personal bias say something is “bad”.

As an example, I personally do not like pumpkin. However, a local store that makes gelato makes some very good Pumpkin Gelato. And I can honestly say “if you like pumpkin, their pumpkin gelato is good.” I can look past my bias and make a judgment call on good and bad.

Yeah, but I can “trash” this comic for said quality. I can “trash” it for the writing, I can “trash” for the amount of anime cliches and tropes it has, shoving boobs when it try’s to make a “serious storyline” which FYI kills any serious tone you were going for. So, with this comic I guess I can say “Hey, if you like the amount of anime tropes, boobs that look like they have been inflated with a bike pump, and writing that makes your eyes roll. Than this is the comic for you.”

MasterGodai, I’ve been following your comic since Page 360 (your September 16, 2016 page; KnuckleUp for even longer than that) and I find myself loving the comic more and more with every new page. Why people think this comic is terrible is beyond me.

Ever since I discovered the KatBox a few years ago with Las Lindas, I quickly began to find that the comics on this site became some of my favorites, in some cases, because of the bizarre adventures the characters got themselves into.

So keep on doing whatever you want with your comic (it is YOUR comic, after all), and I’ll be here every Friday to read the next installment of one of my favorite webcomics. 😀

Glad that you’re taking other viewpoints in stride. Honestly that’s the best way to go.
Some years back now, I binge read ’till I was caught up on the updates. So I wasn’t there when it began. But I’ve been on board since then. It’s become part of my end of the day ritual.

I’ve perceived Rascals as a light slice of life story, with ninjas, wrestling, references, and so on! That theming has been in place since basically the beginning obviously, regardless of whichever one the plot favors from arc to arc. I actually kind of equated much of the shenanigans to a Regular Show episode and/or harem anime. But that’s just me. I don’t know how others perceive it. And there isn’t any right or wrong opinion. That’s the ultimate thing to remember.
That said, if a comment meant as an opinion comes off as a written eye roll or passive aggressive jab on your effort or story themes, while having read everything in it’s entirety up to this point, most likely they’re either looking too deep into the scenario (Likely due to skewered expectations, which happens all the time), like to rage or be cynical since that’s what 9.5 out of 10 internet “reviewers” like to do now (we all can’t be Nostalgia Critic or Red Letter Media). Or are legitimately frustrated with the plot direction (but, again, non-constructive criticism masked by weak wit isn’t clever, online or otherwise).
Ooorrr they’re just a jackass. IDK. All of the above? None? Doesn’t matter.

Ultimately you get to do what you love for a living. Who is anyone to tell you how to proceed?

Or they can just have a problem with character consistency and being forced to have sympathy for a character who up this point hasn’t actually earned said sympathy.

Or you can just go else where, if you hate this comic so much why do you keep coming back?

Well, because I wanna see just how absurd this comic can get and will it reach self parody levels or not. Also, this is coming from you, a person who screamed “STOP READING AND GO MAKE A BETTER ONE!!!!” and “THIS COMIC IS FREE WHICH MEANS YOU CANNOT CRITICIZE IT!!!”, so quite ironic that you of all people would be talking about hissy fits. So, I’d say you clearly are one of those fanboys who cannot even stand the notion of critique, also it’s “college”.

No. Thats not the reason at all. The reason you keep coming back is to troll the comments section, looking for any sort of reply to a post you make.

You are like a vulture. You circle around, looking for a post to comment on, adding in a negative post and then feed off of the replies that you get.

You are a troll. We cant even block you because you dont have an account. Seriously, Disqus needs to change the way they do their commenting. Or, if possible, Godai and company here on Katbox need to change their own settings to remove the ability to comment without an account being made.

You add nothing to this comment board except for negativity. You continuously state “Im just waiting to see if the comic does blah blah blah.” You arent. Or you wouldnt comment as often as you do. You arent waiting. You are trolling.

An then there’s this clown. Hey, if I’m a troll what should I call you guys who gang up on anyone who criticizes this comic with your constant “Dun like dun read” or “Let’s see you do better!”. Also, I’d say I actually do add something with my negativity, because I actually call out the problems, as opposed to the majority here who can only type “OMG!! BIG BOOBIES SO AMAZING!!”, “OMG!! MEME/REFERENCE IS SO AMAZING!” or “OMG! WRITING SO MIND BLOWING!!”.

“An then there’s this clown.”
You are adorable.

Instead of insulting the comic and its characters all the time (This doesnt help at all, it just makes people irritated, hence ‘Troll’) How about actually giving criticism? “Hey, why dont you do this or this? It might help make the comic better?

What you consider “Criticism” couldnt be farther from the truth. Telling Godai “Reiko is a horrible character and she desreves to get her ass kicked.” IS NOT CRITICISM. Its insulting.

You may call out the problems, but you give no solutions.

Well, golly gee Batman. How about not writing said character as a massive cunt for a good run of the comic and then suddenly do a 180 degree turn and make a story arc where I’m supposed to feel sorry for her. Because, guess what I ain’t gonna feel sorry for her, I’ll wanna see her ass get curb stomped so hard she’ll taste gravel for a month.

“How about not writing said character as a massive cunt ” That right there destroys all credibility you had. With me at least, and probably with Godai. Also, the personal insults towards people here that are trying to have a conversation with you. Those dont help either.

Also, again, nothing constructive in your post.

When you decide to, one, make an account and stop hiding behind the anonymous loophole, and two, to actually make an effort to be constructive, which you havent done a single time since you and I have spoken (“This character it bad” Is not constructive) Then and only then will I respond to anything else you say.

I think you are here just to get reactions from people since nothing you say has any real depth to it in regard to the comic. “This arc is bad. Im just waiting to see if this comic becomes a parody of itself.” You obviously hate the comic, so why do you keep reading it.

Have fun in your own little world, because right now, that seems to be the only place where you have anything intelligent or constructive to say to anyone. God knows you arent doing it here.

Oh, where do I begin with this. Let’s start at the top, shall we?
“That right there destroys all credibility you had. With me at least, and probably with Godai.”

Hey, if the character is written in such a way, then I’m gonna call ’em what they are. It doesn’t destroy anything when I’m pointing out the obvious.

“Also, the personal insults towards people here that are trying to have a conversation with you. Those dont help either.”
What personal insults? Me saying “Golly Gee Batman” you find a personal insult? Hoo-boy buddy, you make people on Tumblr seem to have more balls than you.

You know, this is what I find simply amazing. You guys had these numerous opportunities to prove how wrong I am for, as you claim, insulting Reiko’s character or bashing this story arc. Yet, none of you even attempt that; nah instead you for the tired “dun like, dun read”, “lets see you du bettah”, “yer a hater!”, “dis comic is free” and you being a special case of “yer not constructive!”. Speaking of which, let’s be real the only reason you want me to make an account, so you can instantly block me and thus make your balls feel big, because you’ll assume that you somehow have “won”. You don’t give a damn if said criticism is constructive or not, all you care about is making sure you can block anyone who calls out this comic, so you can go back to your perfect little Wonderland.

So, yeah I am smart when it comes to people like you, and let’s be real none of the things you guys say have any real depth either.

. . .oh yeah this was a slice of life webcomic about kids in college what the fuck are the other guys doing while this is going on?

A battle is currently being fought in two fronts buddy this one in her Psyche and the other one in real time, (but that may be presented later on perhaps)

I know that acutally I meant Quick and everyone else in the real world(of this world) who isn’t at Liona’s house dealing with this shit storm

Oh in that case only Jasmin her mom Kyoko her Teacher and a student are currently dealing with her in the backyard, Chrissy and company are not there right now bit were earlier
Skye felt demon Rei presence and is on his way there, but might be presented soon

yeah again knew that was asking what the not graduated “main cast” of the story was doing again Chrissy is with the others their watching demon Reiko go crazy on her mom, teacher etc. but what about everyone who isn’t doing anything for this story arc where are they?

“Granted the story has gone off the rails from a college slice of life story…”
– – – Well yeah but personally I think this story has become way more awesome for it. Honestly it was a direction I never saw coming, so credit to you for subverting expectations man.

“I never said that My art or this webcomic was the best thing since sliced bread I know it has flaws, I know that some people think its a pile of shit”
– – – Well art is subjective to everyone, mate. I can’t draw half as good as you can, but that doesn’t stop me from making animation on my YouTube channel, dude. Don’t let people’s opinions stop you from doing what you like, mate. Now hurry up and get the next page uploaded already. XD

Godaikun you do NOT have to worry about your comic you have come a VERY long way from back then to now, your stories have taken us for an interesting ride of twists and turns that has kept most of us long term fans coming back for more, (some people might think I’m brown nosing here now which I’m NOT!!!) But as one of your fans and contributor to 1 of your story arcs Id like to say thank you for your work and the time and effort you put into this series. You have many people here you recognize that enjoy all forms of your comic projects, so until your animated short becomes a reality we’ll be here giving you moral support and contributions on Patreon, and to the idiot haters out there you can rant all you want but you’re not going to spoil our fun with your demeaning commentaries and comparisons and expectations of what YOU want in a story that is NOT even yours to tell and that’s my 2¢ about it

So, we’re considering anyone who criticizes this comic as ” idiot haters”. Welp, spoken like a true fanboy who doesn’t know what people are speaking about, but likes to make blank assumptions because it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. But, this is the society we live in, where everyone needs to be treated as a special snowflake and coddled.

Not exactly coddled n crap as you say but it ultimately leads for comment section to be closed up at times because of useless debates and you coming out of your way to reply to my statement opinion is proof that you don’t have nothing better to do than just read random comments and give your two cents worth to the one that does get your attention in particular or am I wrong at your reason to answer me when I was speaking in general?

Ouch, but she’s taking the beating on purpose for opportunity. As for MasterGodai, Granted, I haven’t entirely joined Katbox Forums, but I do love what you do with it. Granted criticism is helpful at times, if only to learn any mistakes you made that you can learn from. But there there’s a line that goes past criticism meant to learn from mistakes, and turns into something that ridicules over and over, every time there’s a new page up and said person does not cease to stop ridiculing. The world of Rascal is his world, he made it. So considering every fictional thing his can think of, that’s his to implement. Any kind of explanation to why character the way they are, how did they get their magical and physical abilities, every single question that he can give an answer for, that’s for him to create how you see fit. I get people think this web comic is not good, but that’s just it, granted if you don’t like what someone is creating, then usually you would leave and find other webcomics to their liking. It makes no sense to me that some “criticism” gets continued by people who doesn’t like the comic, but should have left ages ago if they weren’t interested in how it went from slice of life college story to just something different just now. Right now it’s focusing on Reiko’s inner conflict with herself, emphasized by the curse that also took her father. Doesn’t that show that this story was about more than just one person living their lives, dealing with their problems and moving forward after learning from their mistakes. Not to mention, this comic is clearly goes up to M-rated when you think about the content, plus its bonus comics. But that’s the world MasterGodai created (I need to get this guy’s actual real name soon.)

Still this guy has done a good job, sticking with his comics since 2009. That’s a lot of pages created and a lot of hours put into it. I understand that whatever a person’s got with their comics, there’s at least some people who may not take an interest in it at some point. Maybe losing interest as the comic goes in a different direction after getting used to how it started out. We’re free to give feedback, but sometimes if your interest is waning after some time, it’s best to leave and find other comics that may interest you.

If you’re going to say something is Stupid, clarify Why you think it is Stupid. That’s one of the many lessons I’ve learned over the years in trying to learn how to write better. If all you say is something is Bad, Pointless or Stupid, you’re not really saying anything that can help the author / artist improve.

It’s when you give specific detailed commentary on WHAT is “wrong” and WHY it is “wrong” that actual criticism is of value.

If something with how the author does his story seems off for some reason, you would give feedback to point it out. It only makes sense to learn from whatever mistakes you’ve made so it won’t become an occurring problem that may hinder the amusement of books, comics, etc. There’s a problem when people attempt to point this out, only for for a group of others to jump in and try to dissent to the feedback, without any basis, proof, and/or counterargument. They just say the most generic of insults that they type, some attempt said above, only to barely have any point to said counterargument.

Of course the comic is free, but even that is not exempt from any mistakes the author made that others will point out that will affect how many readers who comes to his site to read, he’s the author yes we know, and because he’s the author, it’s in his very ability to continue to have the passion to write and draw, but also consider the words of his readers, and constantly seek to improve himself. I can make several comebacks to these generic comments if I wanted to. Thing is (and this is the last time I will say it), author should continue to do what I said above, but not let certain kinds of immature and thoughtless words affect his ability to learn from his mistakes, and from that make a bigger mistake that causes him to not learn, grow, and adapt anymore by not listening to those willing to give feedback, out of fear that they would only talk ill. That blame does goes to those who just ridicules his work, and never tries to provide helpful feedback that he will understand. This goes double for those who love his work as well, but defends the author the “wrong way”. At least that’s the best I can say about that. Because even defenders need to look carefully at each word someone is saying and have good judgement as to whether what the person says is helpful or hurtful. If they just judge harshly without putting a sufficient amount of thought into it, they’re not any better than the trolls.

I had to say something after reading these few lindes under the new page. I am following Rascals now for quite some time, because i enjoy it in many ways and yes there are one or two points i dont like – but i never understand these “Idiots” who think its best to attack creators.

One thing i can say – you have improved in every way over all these years and i am glad to see you you give these people the middle finger and dont stop doing what you love – and i know how hard this is (i had a simmiliar thing happen to me, but i only got back on track because of some really great people who kicked me).

It is your story, and it wouldnt be the first time where a creator went a totally different direction because of some things that they wanted to tell or do – and i never had the feeling you did it just to do, because i think you can see the fun you have with your world and your characters on every page you put out.

So like you said – Ignore these people out there attacking you and continue to do what you love – you have a lot of readers who love what you do 😉

Keep up what you do and never forget the important thing: the fun creating something 🙂

And when i have replaced my defekt equipment then next weeks i will talk a little bit about your work in my series.

The best stories are the ones where evil gets the upper hand. It’s always darkest just before the dawn. Reiko knows she’s in a difficult situation, so whatever her plan is, I can’t wait to see it work in the end (I hope…)

Keep doing what you’re doing, Mastergodai! You’re doing great!

i like the art and the characters, sure at times it feel like we’re missing something, but the older followers from “the petite symphony site” know there are limits that artist can covey to the readers, that cant be helped. its not like that godia is lacking in skills of drawing skills he has impoved immensly on the art/storytelling,sure we can criticise the artist, but there is a limit to when criticism become hateful and. becomes. unwanted.

Rei’s mother never talks about what happened to the husband or why he’s not in this series…But i am glad we are finally getting some backstory to what the curse actually is and thru flashbacks, and show what happened and what the curse can do…

so thank you kevin for taking your time and sharing this story, ignore the haters they will find anything and everything to hate even.the way your line art or the shade of color that you use ..

What backstory? All we got was a couple of pages that really didn’t explain anything other than why Reiko and Nick aren’t a couple. If you introduce a major plot point you don’t wait 200+ pages to bring it back. So let me ask this. Who originally had the curse? What was the purpose of the curse and what happens if you don’t pass the curse on to your child? When did Reiko’s father’s curse go out of control and what set it off? Where did the curse come from? Why does it effect Reiko and not Jasmine or Kyoko, but Izzy? Does that mean that Izzy has a chance of going out of control too and can now spread it like a magical STD? Does this mean that Kyoko, Jasmine, and Skye have a dormant form of the curse? How do you stop the curse?

The story of where the curse came from or origin story should be told in Godai’s other comic called Rascals Goyoku which is the earlier years of everyone in the usagi clan among few other people, so until Godaikun gets those story pages out we can’t say much else about it

So, essentially said backstory is tied to a bonus comic that hasn’t been updated in quite a while. Instead of explaining it in the main comic, like you should, it’s rendered to bonus material. I’m sorry, am I and Redguard the only ones who notice a problem here?

MasterGodai, to those who think what you do is pure trash, keep this in mind.

Tropes are not bad, cliches are not bad, heaven forbid, boobs(and other portions of the anatomy, male and female) are not bad. How you use them is what makes them “good” or “bad”. You’ve had your ups and down in terms of quality, but every author / artist has gone through that.

So long as you give your 100% and can be honest with yourself about your quality and where you need to improve (always room for improvement), keep doing what you enjoy.

When the honest critiques come in, listen to them, take them to heart, and learn from them. When the trolls, jerks and butt fedoras come flaming, smile at yourself and keep on trucking.

I’ve had a chance to re-read every page from the start of when things went downhill for Reiko, and up until the current ass beating she’s getting. Just gonna flat out say it: Kanashe ain’t wrong in his assertion of the direction that the characters have gone in. Let me be 100% clear, so everyone can fully understand: I am NOT siding or fully agreeing with what he’s saying, as much as that sounds like an oxymoron at this point. What I’m saying, is that there are flaws that have not been completely addressed, due to the many tropes used in every page up to this point.

Does this mean I hate what’s going on? No. Does this mean I share the same sentiment? No. Does this mean I bash? No. The only thing I’m seeing here, is the number of tropes being used, are for the sake & convenience of the plot for the current arc, and how ironically coincidental they are, when it comes to other comics and forms of media that do the exact same thing. And despite this seems like character development gone in the wrong direction, it leaves a LOT of unexplained things that already had very little to no explanation at all. Aside from things that moved the plot along, but not enough to satisfy why these things are happening in all pages involved & up to the current arc in question.

I had asked for clarification on what appears to be the problem, and he answered. And if anyone wants to get said clarification, then I’m more than happy to link it here.

Yes but if you look at his posts and replies to many other people he’s making debates arguing with other fans and trying to say that some fans don’t have the ability to even count like he’s a damned genius gift to the fandom and that if given a chance would undo all the current story events replacing it with his own “correct” version.
I’m suspecting that his current user name is not even real I think he’s the former writer of the comic under an alias who used to be called Crimson.

Don’t think he hasn’t done it to me as well, because he has. Believe me. And yes, I have noticed that. But I needed to get some kind of clarification as to why those things were being said. He provided that, mostly in tandem with the way responses were being thrown out.

If you mean that one dude who claims he’s 46, yeah sorry the fact he makes such wild bullshit for this story arc that wasn’t even existing? I’m gonna question their intelligence, along with the dude who assumes the “Let’s see you do better” is a good counter-argument. Also, I don’t see myself as some genius gift, I do however see myself as a guy who notices a big problem with this story arc that essentially put’s a spanner in the gears.

[Edit]: Had to revise it, and repost because Disqus borked and deleted my comment without me physically doing so…

Okay, here’s the thing, and I’m also going to admit myself for saying it, because it’s honestly true: The large majority of people who like things, give a chance of liking something based on the emotion of either relating to what is going on, or sheer feeling alone. Most people are not exactly capable of giving an honest, non-biased approach of saying something about it that would be considered constructive criticism, without getting feelings involved.

So, for example, if I gave an expression of how I feel about it, based on what I saw, and someone like Kanashe saw it as bad taste. Then instead of his response being in direct tandem of what is going on, it will be about something that shouldn’t belong when reviewing a post: feelings. At that point, the response given will end up with one catching feelings for being biased, as opposed to someone who is non-biased. I have done this before, and the results were not exactly pretty. Posting when on the internet is a literal minefield, and should be treated as such on a per comment basis.

There is no rule specifically giving anyone saying they can’t like something, or can’t do this & that. Mastergodai doesn’t have any rules in place when posting stating that you can’t do this or that. He’s already come out and said what he says, and that is fine. Now, had there would have been some rules in place to curb what is going on. Then that would directly change. This is on a site basis. Let’s give another example: The comments section that is going south here, is exactly the same thing that happened with the comments section of Las Lindas. The only difference is that it was so toxic & full of vitriol, that Chalo closed the entire section down, and only allowed posting about it on the Katbox forums. The comments section on each page was closed off for well over 2 years, open briefly about 4 months ago, then closed permanently shortly afterwards. It was the only way that crowd control was invoked, by revoking said privilege away from everyone, since there was more hate than actual response.

So, let’s be real here: The last thing I seriously don’t want to have happen, is to see the same thing happen here. I’m honestly sure nobody wants to go through the process of making an account on the Katbox Forums, just to be able to say something about this comic, when the option is open & available to all. And that option should remain open if you like or dislike what’s going on.

tl;dr: Don’t catch feelings on how someone gives a negative response. Trying to stop someone from giving their own response to either comic, or the people that don’t like what someone else is saying, is like trying to stop an Amtrack Train with unrolled paper towels, like a Wile E. Coyote cartoon. It’s just gonna go through, until something makes it all derail, and stop the train for everyone.
